Weather systems guide

Weather, Rain & Thunderstorm Guide

Village in the Shade uses four separate weather states: Clear / Sunny, Rain, Thunderstorm and Snow. Rain currently helps ordinary outdoor crop watering, Thunderstorm is its own anomaly condition, and Snow is not a Rain substitute.

Quick answer: check the exact weather label before acting. Rain supports ordinary outdoor fields. Thunderstorm is required for Fujin & Raijin. Snow is the Yuki-onna weather relation. Clear / Sunny is the baseline.

The four states

Weather at a glance

These labels are intentionally explicit. A rainy day and a thunderstorm day are different states with different content boundaries.

Clear / Sunny

Baseline day with no documented special bonus.

Rain

Waters ordinary outdoor crops in current guidance.

Thunderstorm

Separate from Rain and tied to Fujin & Raijin.

Snow

Tied to Yuki-onna; do not infer Rain behavior.

Do not conflate states

Rain vs Thunderstorm vs Snow

Use the exact state for the system you are checking.

Farm decisions

How weather interacts with farming

Weather is one input into farm planning, not a replacement for the crop and paddy rules.

Confirmed current guidance

Rain covers ordinary outdoor fields

Rain automatically waters ordinary outdoor crops, so you can use the day for mining, fishing or requests. Clear days remain the baseline. The project does not publish a rain growth multiplier, crop-quality bonus or fertilizer interaction.

Separate system

Paddy fields have their own rule

Paddy crops do not need ordinary crop watering. Use the Paddy Farming guide for Plow, weeds, Rice, Wasabi and Lotus Root. Greenhouse weather behavior is still unresolved.

Sprinkler rain behavior, livestock outdoor behavior, fishing bonuses and weather effects on festivals, shops, hunting or forage are not confirmed in the current data. See Farming and Sprinklers for their owning rules.

Weather manipulation

Rain Whistle

The whistle changes the next-day rain likelihood, not the whole weather system.

Unlock milestone 06

Rain Whistle

The sixth reported Okami-buchi Pool Master summon awards the Rain Whistle. Its supported effect is: “Increases the chance of rain the next day.”

Probability

Unknown

Thunderstorm guarantee

No

Use Whistles for the wider whistle system. No forecast UI, exact chance, reroll behavior or direct Fujin & Raijin trigger is documented.

Midnight content

Weather-gated anomalies

The weather relation is exact. Seasonal context can still apply, and not every midnight in a season qualifies.

Rain

Karakasa

Rain-only midnight relation in the current anomaly data.

Thunderstorm

Fujin & Raijin

Requires Thunderstorm. Rain is not a substitute.

Snow

Yuki-onna

Snow relation with Winter recorded as seasonal context.

For the full Midnight route, use Night Anomalies. This page does not duplicate puzzle steps.

Weather and collection

Lost Books: one confirmed weather gate

An anomaly relationship does not automatically make its associated book weather-gated.

No. 43

Jizo Rain Omen

Explicitly Rain-gated at a Village fishing spot. Check the Lost Books guide for the collection route.

No. 44

Yuki-onna relation

Related to the anomaly, but Snow is not confirmed as the book requirement.

No. 45

Fujin & Raijin relation

Related to the anomaly, but Thunderstorm is not confirmed as the book requirement.

Upcoming: September 29, 2026

Thunderstorm can block announced feature events

The announced update says Thunderstorm days can block certain feature-unlock events. As of this page snapshot, treat both entries below as future restrictions, not live weather requirements.

Farmland Expansion feature-unlock event

Upcoming: September 29, 2026

Furniture Catalog feature-unlock event

Upcoming: September 29, 2026

See Farm Expansion for the current plot count and future-state boundary. The future Furniture Catalog details are not duplicated here.

Troubleshooting

When the weather result looks wrong

Use the evidence currently supported by the project, then leave unresolved mechanics open.

Anomaly did not appear

Confirm the exact displayed state: Rain for Karakasa, Thunderstorm for Fujin & Raijin, Snow for Yuki-onna. Then check Midnight timing and the owning Night Anomalies guide. Do not substitute Rain for Thunderstorm.

Fields or event did not change

Rain watering applies to ordinary outdoor crops. Paddy and Greenhouse rules are separate. For the future event blocker, only use the Thunderstorm restriction after the September 29 update is live. Forecast, roll timing and save/reload rerolls are not documented.

FAQ

Weather questions

Short answers for the most common Rain, Thunderstorm and Snow mix-ups.

Does Rain water crops automatically?

Current strong gameplay guidance says Rain waters ordinary outdoor crops automatically. Paddy fields are separate and do not need ordinary crop watering. Greenhouse behavior is not confirmed here.

Does Rain count as a Thunderstorm?

No. Rain and Thunderstorm are separate weather states. Fujin & Raijin requires Thunderstorm, so ordinary Rain does not satisfy that trigger.

What does Snow do?

Snow is the weather relation recorded for Yuki-onna. Do not treat Snow as Rain or assume that Snow waters fields unless a later source confirms it.

How does the Rain Whistle work?

The sixth reported Okami-buchi Pool Master summon unlocks the Rain Whistle. It increases the chance of rain the next day, but its probability is unknown and it is not a Thunderstorm guarantee.

Can weather affect Lost Books?

Lost Book No. 43 is explicitly Rain-gated. No. 44 and No. 45 are related to Yuki-onna and Fujin & Raijin, but their records do not confirm Snow or Thunderstorm as book requirements.

Why did a future feature-unlock event not trigger?

The announced September 29, 2026 update says Thunderstorm days can block Farmland Expansion and Furniture Catalog feature-unlock events. This is upcoming information, not a current requirement.
