Paddy farming guide
Paddy Farming Guide
Paddy is a distinct flooded growing environment. Unlock the Plow through early story progression, use it instead of the Hoe, then plant compatible Paddy crops such as Rice, Wasabi and Lotus Root. Paddy does not inherit ordinary Field watering rules.

Keep the environments separate
Field, Ridge and Paddy are not the same
Shared farm space does not mean shared mechanics.
Field
Ordinary tilled land for standard field crops.
Ridge
Raised-bed space used by crops marked as Ridge crops.
Paddy
Flooded space created with the Plow for water-loving crops.
The Greenhouse is a separate growing environment that can support Paddy fields in the building research, but it does not replace the base Plow unlock.
Unlock path
Get the Plow, then prepare the water plot
The current acquisition is tied to Tobari's Helping Ticket progression.
01
Complete Tobari's task
Follow the early Helping Ticket progression. The repository links Tobari to the Plow and Rice or Wasabi seed access.
02
Receive the Plow
A next-day event is documented after the task. Spring 16 or later is an observed hint, not a universal hard date.
03
Plow suitable ground
Clear a workable area, equip the Plow and create only the Paddy space you plan to use.

Upgrade coverage
The shared tool profile owns the area sizes. These are action footprints, not total Paddy capacity.
| Tier | Paddy area | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Base | 1 tile | Use the larger footprint to reduce repeated creation actions. |
| Copper | 2×2 | Use the larger footprint to reduce repeated creation actions. |
| Steel | 3×3 | Use the larger footprint to reduce repeated creation actions. |
| Gold | 4×4 | Use the larger footprint to reduce repeated creation actions. |
| Meteor Iron | 5×5 | Use the larger footprint to reduce repeated creation actions. |
The shared tool record calls the Plow a paddy-field tool and keeps its purchase price null. It does not verify bank or levee footprint, adjacency requirements, construction cost or a maximum Paddy count.
Crop compatibility
Rice, Wasabi and Lotus Root
The current structured crop records identify three edible crops at the Rice field location.

Rice is the long-cycle exception at 50 recorded growth days and is planted in Spring. Wasabi is recorded for Spring or Summer. Lotus Root is recorded for Autumn or Winter with a Year 2 unlock. Rice yield, exact harvest boundaries and out-of-season survival are not promoted beyond the shared records.
Paddy maintenance
No ordinary watering, but weeds still matter
Flooded crops and field upkeep are separate mechanics.
Watering
Current data marks Paddy watering as false. Do not build a Sprinkler grid just to water Paddy tiles.
Sprinkler rulesWeeds
Weeds can remain relevant in Paddy. The Sickle is the documented cutting tool, and three-tile-oriented rows are a layout recommendation for easier manual clearing, not a hard width.
Paddy layout ideasDuck and Snail boundary
Duck weed removal in Paddy and Snail as a Paddy fertilizer substitute are research leads, not current canonical claims. Their persistence, scope and duration remain unknown.
Processing handoff
Paddy crops have separate machine routes
The machine datasets own recipes, timing and sale values.

Separate boundaries
Greenhouse, Scarecrow and Paddy removal
Do not import ordinary Field behavior into every Paddy edge case.
Greenhouse
The building record supports Paddy fields, but the exact Rice, Wasabi and Lotus Root out-of-season matrix is not verified.
Seasonal Scarecrow
Its matching-season 5 × 5 effect is canonical for its own system. Paddy compatibility and season override are not established.
Reversion
The current reversion tool is not verified. Do not assume a Pickaxe, Hoe or Plow toggle.
For quality and fertilizer interactions, defer to Crop Quality and the shared fertilizer records. No Paddy-specific quality bonus or fertilizer whitelist is invented here.
FAQ
Paddy farming questions
How do I make a Paddy field?
Use the Plow, not the Hoe. The Plow converts suitable farmland into Paddy tiles.
When do I get the Plow?
The current progression record points to Tobari's Helping Ticket and a Spring 16 or later hint. Treat that as a progression hint, not a guaranteed delivery date for every save.
Do Paddy crops need watering?
The current canonical tool note says Paddy crops do not use ordinary crop watering in the same way as normal fields. The repository does not document a separate refill formula.
Which crops grow in Paddy?
The current crop records list Rice, Wasabi and Lotus Root at the Rice field location. Lotus Root has a separate Year 2 unlock note.
Can Ducks or Snails automate Paddy care?
The current repository does not confirm Duck weed removal or Snail fertilizer behavior for Paddy, so this guide does not present either as a guaranteed mechanic.
Can I remove a Paddy field?
The tool and crop records do not verify a reversion tool or toggle. Do not assume the Pickaxe, Hoe or Plow reverses Paddy state.
