Crop Quality Guide

Village in the Shade Crop Quality Guide

Crop quality progresses from normal quality through Copper, Silver and Gold Stars. A Gold-star crop can earn S Rank in the Crop contest, which brands that crop and raises it to the top documented quality tier.

Crop Quality — Short Answer

Grow and harvest the same crop repeatedly

The documented crop tiers are Copper Star — 1.25×, Silver Star — 1.50×, Gold Star — 1.75× and Branded / Contest Winner — 2.00× base crop value. Gold Star is not automatically Branded: enter the Gold-star crop in the Crop contest and earn S Rank.

English terminology is provisional until the official Western localization can be verified on October 27, 2026. These mechanics and numeric values are based on the current Japanese release.

Quality Progression

Normal → Copper → Silver → Gold → Branded

Repeated harvesting moves the relevant crop through quality progression. Branded is a contest result, not just another automatic harvest tier.

What each quality tier does

These values are scoped to the documented crop quality system. They are not a universal multiplier for fish, livestock products, processed goods or cooked dishes.

Current crop-quality testing shows Branded / Contest Winner at 2.00× the base crop value. The custom brand name is a naming layer; it does not add another bonus.

How to Reach Gold Star

Focus quality on one target crop

Quality progression is tied to the crop you are improving, not a single global farm level.

01

Choose a target

If a contest or Greenhouse delivery is your goal, focus on one required crop such as Rice, Tea or Soybean.

02

Grow and harvest it repeatedly

Repeated harvesting raises that crop's quality progression. The exact number of harvests is not universal across all crops.

03

Reach Gold Star before contest day

Do not assume a hidden point total or fixed harvest count. The current system-level guidance does not publish one universal threshold.

Improving Rice does not automatically raise Tea or Soybean. If you need several different branded crops, plan multiple contest dates ahead.

Gold Star vs Branded

Gold Star is the contest prerequisite

The important distinction for both value and Greenhouse planning is that Gold Star and Branded are different states.

Gold Star alone is not Branded

Gold Star is the highest normal crop-quality tier shown here. A Gold-star crop still needs to enter the Crop division and earn S Rank before it becomes branded.

Branding is crop-specific

The relevant winning crop becomes branded, and the game lets you assign that brand a custom name. Winning with one crop does not brand every crop automatically.

Crop Contest

Gold Star → Crop Contest S Rank → Branded

Crop contests are the bridge from quality progression to branded delivery goods.

Prepare

Bring one Gold-star crop

The contest accepts one crop item. Choose the crop you want to brand and prepare it before Day 27.

Enter

Choose Crop division

Contests run on Day 27 of each season from 10:00–16:00 at Village Plaza. You can choose only one division on each date.

Result

S Rank creates the brand

Current testing supports Gold Star → S Rank → branded crop. Leaving the contest advances the clock to 16:00, so finish morning chores first.

Contest scarcity: There are 4 contest dates per year and one division per date, so crop branding competes with Livestock and Horse entries.

Branded crops are part of the unlock chain

Gold-star crops are not enough for the branded delivery requirements.

Branded Rice ×5

Reach Gold Star, win Crop Contest S Rank with this crop, then deliver the branded result.

Branded Tea ×5

Reach Gold Star, win Crop Contest S Rank with this crop, then deliver the branded result.

Branded Soybean ×5

Reach Gold Star, win Crop Contest S Rank with this crop, then deliver the branded result.

These are the crop-related requirements only. The full High-Quality Goods category also includes branded livestock products, animal fibers and Rare Gems.

Quality Beyond Direct Sales

Processing can add another reason to improve crops

Higher-quality crop inputs can matter for some processed goods, so quality progression can have value beyond direct crop sales.

Processing behavior varies by recipe and machine. This page does not claim that every branded input creates a universal 2.00× processed output.

Common Failure

Why is my crop still not Gold Star?

Keep the diagnosis tied to the documented progression.

  • • You may need more harvests of that same crop.
  • • Quality progress is crop-specific.
  • • The exact required harvest count is not universal.

This guide does not blame watering, weather, fertilizer or tools without a verified crop-quality relationship.

FAQ

Crop quality questions

How do I increase crop quality?

Grow and harvest the same crop repeatedly. Crop quality progresses from normal quality through Copper, Silver and Gold Stars.

What are the crop quality tiers?

The documented progression is Base, Copper Star, Silver Star, Gold Star and then Branded after a Crop contest win.

How much are higher-quality crops worth?

Current crop-quality testing shows Copper at 1.25× base value, Silver at 1.50×, Gold at 1.75× and Branded at 2.00×.

How do I get a Gold-star crop?

Keep growing and harvesting the same crop until its quality progression reaches Gold Star. The exact number of harvests is not universal across every crop.

How do I brand a crop?

Enter a Gold-star crop in the Crop division of the seasonal contest. A Gold-star entry earns S Rank and brands that crop.

Is Gold Star the same as branded?

No. Gold Star is the prerequisite for Crop Contest S Rank. The contest win then turns that crop into a branded crop.

Do I need branded crops for the Greenhouse?

Yes. The High-Quality Goods delivery chain includes branded Rice, Tea and Soybean, which contribute to unlocking the Greenhouse.

Do all crops share the same quality level?

No. Improving one crop does not automatically raise every other crop to the same quality.

Does the Greenhouse increase crop quality?

The documented Greenhouse benefit is season-independent growing and related farming options. This guide does not assume a separate Greenhouse quality bonus.
