Midnight Furniture System
Village in the Shade Night Furniture & Ghost Shelf Guide
The Ghost Shelf lets you influence Midnight anomaly encounters. Placing one of five wooden plaques calls or enables a matching anomaly, while Purifying Salt suppresses paranormal encounters. Night Furniture rewards are then earned through the anomalies' individual mechanics.
The Straw Doll is separate: it protects the player from one hit rather than controlling whether an anomaly appears.
English item and anomaly names currently follow the site's Japanese-release terminology and may be updated after the official English localization can be verified on October 27, 2026.
Short Answer
Three different night-furniture functions
Keep encounter control, encounter protection and reward collection separate.
Ghost Shelf
お化け棚 · No.2305
Obtained through Midnight-related progression after Year 1 Spring 16. It is the placement surface for the documented plaques and Purifying Salt.
Wooden Plaques
5 known plaques
Randomly obtained from Midnight glowing pickups and associated with specific anomaly relationships.
Protection
藁人形 · one hit
The Straw Doll absorbs one relevant damage instance and is consumed. It does not suppress encounters.
Ghost Shelf
How the shelf controls Midnight encounters
The Ghost Shelf becomes obtainable through Midnight-related progression; the exact event handoff stays intentionally broad.
Place a wooden plaque
A plaque on the Ghost Shelf calls or enables its corresponding anomaly. Current sources do not establish that this is a guaranteed same-night spawn, that plaques bypass seasons, or whether the shelf can hold several items at once.
See how Midnight unlocks, when it ends, and where glowing pickups appearPlace Purifying Salt
清めの塩 / Purifying Salt is the opposite control: it suppresses Midnight paranormal or anomaly encounters. Do not expand that wording to Mud Seed, Magatama, Cursed Fish, Fox Shrine or every Midnight activity.
Five Plaques
Which wooden plaque calls which anomaly?
All five current relationships use stable IDs and the shared Midnight glowing-pickup source.
達磨の木札
Daruma Wooden Plaque
→ Tsukumo Daruma midnight-glowing-pickup
手の目の木札
Tenome Wooden Plaque
→ Tenome (手の目) midnight-glowing-pickup
百目の木札
Hyakume Wooden Plaque
→ Hyakume midnight-glowing-pickup
天狗の木札
Tengu Wooden Plaque
→ Tengu midnight-glowing-pickup
野槌の木札
Nozuchi Wooden Plaque
→ Nodzuchi midnight-glowing-pickup
Placing a plaque controls which anomaly is called or enabled, but this page does not claim guaranteed timing, plaque consumption, reusable placement, or a seasonal override.
Protection Item
What does the Straw Doll do?
藁人形 / Straw Doll is not a shelf-control item.
When carried, the Straw Doll can take one hit for the player and is consumed. Current canonical data describes one instance of damage in the relevant night-encounter context; it does not establish universal invincibility or protection from every damage source.
The current source lists it as a Stage 2 Shrine item recipe. No separate purchase or shop source is asserted.
Do not confuse the three functions
Wooden plaque: calls or enables a specific anomaly.
Purifying Salt: suppresses paranormal/anomaly encounters.
Straw Doll: protects against one hit after an encounter happens.
Night Furniture Rewards
Rewards by anomaly
These are verified examples and relationship paths, not a complete Night Furniture loot table.
Tsukumo Daruma
Tenome (手の目)
Hyakume
Nodzuchi
Nozuchi's short route is grass cutting, finding the red-light body and attacking it with the Sickle; full mechanics stay in Night Anomalies.
Tengu
Tengu uses a different path: buy the matching Red Candle (赤い蝋燭) or Blue Candle (青い蝋燭) for ¥500, search the candle-lit glowing points in the village and obtain blueprints randomly. The normal Flashlight is ineffective for this special search.
Stone Ghost
The Shell Fossil / 貝の化石 is the documented special reward from the running Stone Ghost. Its Catalog number and guarantee status are not yet established.
The current verified examples do not establish duplicate handling, exact probabilities, or a guaranteed-new reward. Other Night Furniture comes from other anomaly systems, so this page does not imply these six examples cover every night-furniture entry.
Yuki-onna research separately associates 雪だるま / Snowman and 雪うさぎ / Snow Rabbit with this category, but canonical item IDs, Catalog numbers and guarantee rules are not yet established. See the Yuki-onna grave guide for the encounter route.

Why Night Furniture matters for the Catalog
Night Furniture is easy to miss because much of it comes from anomaly-specific Midnight mechanics rather than ordinary shops or crafting.
Ghost Shelf (お化け棚) — Catalog No.2305
Use the in-game Catalog number to identify the owning system. No.2305 is verified for Ghost Shelf; this page does not infer that the entire Night Furniture category starts there or claim an exact category total.
Review the Catalog completion guideSeason and Troubleshooting
When should a plaque work?
Seasonal anomaly rules remain separate from shelf placement.
Known seasonal context
Current anomaly data places Tsukumo Daruma and Hyakume from Spring onward, and Nozuchi and Tengu from Summer onward. Tenome's seasonal availability remains unresolved here. The plaque table is not a promise that a plaque overrides an anomaly's normal season.
If nothing appears
Check that Midnight is active and the correct plaque is placed.
Check the normal season gate; do not assume the plaque bypasses it.
Check that Purifying Salt is not the current shelf item.
Do not treat an unverified timing or guarantee as a bug.
