Charcoal Kiln Guide

Turn confirmed wood materials into Charcoal in 30 minutes, keep Coal and Charcoal separate, and feed the resulting fuel into Furnace and other downstream recipes.

How to Unlock the Charcoal Kiln

Learn the Shrine skill, then build the machine at a Workbench.

  1. 1. Open the Shrine skill tree. The current public page keeps the repair-stage field unpublished rather than guessing from a list position.
  2. 2. Learn Charcoal Kiln.Pay Standard Magatama ×1, Rain Magatama ×1, Twin Magatama ×1 and Bronze Mirror ×1. Child Magatama and Sword are not part of this skill cost.
  3. 3. Craft it at the Workbench.Use Brick ×5 and Coal ×4. Brick is not Clay, and Coal is not Charcoal.

Machine sell value: ¥38. That is a secondary reference, not a reason to process Charcoal for profit.

Core Route

How to Make Charcoal

The canonical route is narrow on purpose: use the confirmed item records, not a generic “any wood” rule.

1 · Load

Five materials

The input quantity is five. The current data does not establish whether the result is one Charcoal or another quantity, so no output multiplier is shown.

2 · Wait

30 minutes

The processing timer is 30 minutes for the base route. The upgrade keeps that timer.

3 · Collect

Charcoal

Charcoal has a listed sell value of ¥5, but its more useful role is as fuel and a recipe ingredient.

Which Wood Can You Use?

Only these two wood-material records are in the current public allowlist.

Hard Wood and Bamboo are intentionally omitted. Their names or sources do not prove Charcoal Kiln compatibility, and the page does not claim that sap, branches, seeds or every tree-derived item works. For the wider material map, see the Resources Guide.

Item distinction

Coal vs Charcoal

They are separate items with different jobs in the progression loop.

Coal

Mined in the Quarry. It is a construction ingredient for the Charcoal Kiln and can also fuel the Furnace.

Charcoal

Processed in the Charcoal Kiln. It can fuel the Furnace and appears in several downstream recipes.

Progression loop

Brick → Kiln → Charcoal → Furnace

Keep construction inputs, processed outputs and operating fuel in their own lanes.

Brick is made from Clay in the Furnace, then five Brick plus four Coal build the base Kiln. Wood materials become Charcoal, and the Furnace accepts Coal or Charcoal ×1 as an alternative fuel choice.

Upgrade

What Does the Upgraded Charcoal Kiln Do?

The supported benefit is loading capacity, not a speed or output multiplier.

Batch capacity

Up to 3 materials at once

Processing remains 30 minutes. Do not read this as 3× output, 3× speed, a 10-minute cycle or a guaranteed 15 Wood → 3 Charcoal conversion.

Troubleshooting

Common Charcoal Kiln Problems

Check the exact boundary before changing inputs or spending Shrine resources.

Can't craft it?

Learn the Shrine skill first, then check for Brick ×5 and Coal ×4 at the Workbench.

The input is rejected

Use Wood or Easy Wood from the current allowlist. Hard Wood and Bamboo are not automatically accepted.

Expecting a faster upgrade?

The upgrade adds capacity for up to three materials and keeps the 30-minute timer.
