Inventory Management Guide
Storage Boxes & Linked Storage Guide
Storage Boxes hold items at a placed location. A Workbench can craft from boxes in its surrounding 8 tiles, while the Storage Box Linking Shrine skill helps you move between multiple boxes through the storage interface.

Linked storage is for manual storage navigation. It should not be read as a global Workbench crafting range.
Storage Basics
Store items without filling your carry inventory
Storage Boxes are placed furniture for item organization. They are separate from Bag Upgrades, which own player carry capacity.
1. Place a functional box
Create a home for materials
The current functional records are Wooden Storage Box and Modern Storage Box. Capacity and a complete placement matrix remain undocumented.
2. Deposit items
Organize by your own workflow
Use example categories such as crops, ore, fish or delivery reserves. These are player organization ideas, not game-defined tabs.
3. Add local access
Put high-use boxes near the Workbench
Local placement matters for direct crafting. Linking helps manual navigation between boxes, but it does not replace the local Workbench rule.
Bag Upgrades own carried inventory while Storage Boxes own deposited storage. See the Bag Upgrades Guide for capacity progression, and keep that system separate from Storage Boxes.
Workbench Integration
How close does a Storage Box need to be?
The direct crafting rule is the clearest storage mechanic in the current source set.
Direct answer
Use one of the Workbench's 8 surrounding tiles.
The source wording is surrounding 8 tiles. That means the conceptual adjacent-8 positions around the Workbench, not an 8-tile radius.
Example of all 8 valid surrounding positions
B = Storage Box. W = Workbench. This is an optional layout example, not a requirement to fill every tile.
Craft directly from storage
When a box is in the surrounding 8 tiles, the Workbench can use its materials without first moving them into the player's carry inventory.
Keep the scope narrow
The current evidence does not establish the same nearby-box rule for Anvil, cooking stations, Furnace or processing machines. Do not generalize from Workbench behavior.
The Crafting Guide remains the authority for Workbench acquisition, recipes and machine roles.
Shrine Skill
How to use Storage Box Linking
Storage Box Linking is a quality-of-life skill for moving between storage boxes. It is not a farm-wide crafting permission.
Storage Box Linking
Switch or move items between multiple boxes
The canonical Shrine record places this skill at Repair Stage 4. It supports storage-interface navigation and movement between multiple boxes.

Workbench core
Keep high-use Wood, Stone and common crafting inputs in the surrounding 8 tiles.
Delivery reserve
Separate branded goods, gems and other items saved for a future delivery.
Farm box
Group seeds, harvested crops and field supplies as an example organization.
Mining box
Keep ore, ingots and stone together if that matches your current upgrade route.
Fishing box
Store fish and bait separately from materials used at the Workbench.
Keep delivery materials separate
A dedicated box can reduce the risk of accidentally processing or selling branded goods and gems saved for High-Quality Goods delivery. It is a protection habit, not an automatic item lock.

Why can't my Workbench see stored materials?
Check the local access rule before moving every item into your bag.

FAQ
Storage Box questions
How do Storage Boxes work?
Storage Boxes are stationary item storage. Deposit items for later access, then keep commonly used materials near a Workbench when you want direct crafting access.
Can the Workbench use items inside Storage Boxes?
Yes. A Workbench can use materials from Storage Boxes in the surrounding 8 tiles without moving those materials into your carry inventory first.
How close does a Storage Box need to be to the Workbench?
The box must be in one of the Workbench's 8 surrounding tiles. This is an adjacent-8 layout, not an 8-tile radius.
How do I link Storage Boxes?
Purchase the Storage Box Linking Shrine skill. It lets you switch or move items between multiple Storage Boxes from the storage interface.
What does Storage Box Linking cost?
Standard Magatama ×2, Twin Magatama ×2, Child Magatama ×1 and Bronze Mirror ×2.
Does linked storage let the Workbench use every box?
Not from the evidence currently available. Linking changes manual storage access; the Workbench rule remains the local surrounding-8 rule.
How do I switch between linked Storage Boxes?
Use the linked-box selector shown in the Storage Box interface. Platform-specific bindings can vary, so this guide does not hardcode one controller layout.
Can I rename Storage Boxes?
Player reports indicate that naming may be available, but the current canonical and strong guide records do not verify the interaction, so this page treats it as a research lead.
How many items fit in one Storage Box?
The current canonical records do not verify a slot count or a capacity difference between box styles.
Can Storage Boxes be placed outside?
Storage Boxes are documented as placed furniture, but the current canonical records do not establish a complete indoor, outdoor, barn or greenhouse placement matrix.
What's the difference between a Bag Upgrade and a Storage Box?
Bag Upgrades increase what you carry while traveling. Storage Boxes hold items at a placed location and can support nearby Workbench crafting. See the Bag Upgrades Guide for the carry-capacity progression.
Why can't my Workbench use an item from storage?
Check that the item is in a box in one of the 8 surrounding tiles, that the recipe quantity is sufficient and that you are using the Workbench rather than assuming every station shares the same rule.

Shared Box tips
Use them as local caches
A Shared Box near a fishing or resource area can hold temporary overflow or items needed in that location. Opening a different Shared Box elsewhere does not currently reveal the same contents.
The repository does not confirm whether Storage Box Linking affects Shared Boxes. Treat them as a separate system and do not describe a global shared inventory.

Storage vs Bag
Carry capacity and deposited storage solve different problems
Bag Upgrades expand what you carry while traveling. Storage Boxes hold deposited items at placed locations. Linked Storage changes how eligible boxes are accessed; it does not increase Bag capacity or create automatic sorting.
