Winter Day 2 is preparation guidance
The current Japanese chart starts Rule VII on Winter 2 at Sazanka's house and advises upgrading the Axe with Gold Ingots. This is not presented as a hard requirement that the upgrade must be completed exactly that day. The tree interaction occurs later, when the story sends you into the thicket.
