Rainy Nights Matter
Rain Magatama has a clear weather route
Rain Magatama are specifically documented as rainy-midnight pickups. A rainy midnight is one of the clearest natural opportunities for this variant.
You can also target Rain Magatama through the Spring Mujina or Autumn Tofu Kozō reward choice. No exact spawn percentage is published here.
Midnight Pickup Logic
How glowing pickups work
Magatama appear at known glowing pickup locations during midnight exploration. The locations are relatively consistent, but exact points that produce an item on a given night are not guaranteed.
Crossroads Shrine
How to unlock and use the Shrine
The Shrine becomes usable through early Spring story progression after Komako's shrine-repair sequence. After completing the repair requirements, return to the Shrine on the following day to begin using the skill tree.
Magatama are resources
Offer Magatama at the Crossroads Shrine as currency for Shrine skill nodes. Do not equip them as accessories.
Deeper nodes need progress
Not every skill is visible immediately. Later Shrine repair and story progression open deeper parts of the tree.
Other cursed resources
Later nodes may also use swords, mirrors and other cursed objects. This page does not duplicate a full cursed-item database.
Village in the Sunshine
What changes on the safer route?
Village in the Sunshine is the current Western-facing name for the safer mode, earlier referred to as Peaceful Life Mode. The standard acquisition routes here describe normal play, where midnight exploration is a major Magatama source.
FAQ
Magatama answers
How many Magatama types are there?
Current Japanese item data documents four: Standard, Rain, Twin and Child Magatama.
What are Magatama used for?
They are Shrine resources used to unlock nodes in the Crossroads Shrine skill tree.
Do different Magatama have passive effects?
Current high-confidence Japanese guide data treats Magatama as Shrine resources rather than equipable items with their own passive bonuses. The gameplay bonuses come from skills unlocked with Shrine resources.
Can I buy Magatama?
Magatama-class items can appear in the General Store's rotating inventory, but the exact variant schedule is not fully documented.
Can I get Magatama during the day?
Yes. Japanese guide data reports occasional Magatama-class drops from wild birds during the day, although midnight exploration remains a major source.
Does Piro's grave always give a Magatama?
No. Flower offerings can produce Magatama-class rewards, but ordinary materials may also appear.
Does Summer Kappa give Magatama?
No. The currently documented Summer Kappa reward is Jinbei rather than a selectable Magatama.
Does Winter Nekomata let me choose a Magatama?
No. Its current reward data describes a random Magatama outcome, with other possible rewards such as a sword or mirror.
Why can't I unlock a Shrine skill even though I have enough Magatama?
Parts of the Shrine skill tree are progression-gated. Continue the story and complete later Shrine-related progression to open deeper nodes.
Research and Localization Note
What remains unknown
This guide uses the current Japanese release. The four Magatama types and their main acquisition routes are well documented, while exact shop rotations, random drop pools and official English item names still need further verification.
Player screenshots may show modified sell prices after Shrine price-boost skills are unlocked. Do not copy screenshot prices into base databases without checking active Shrine bonuses.
